I had to blur a lot of stuff out of this week’s letter. Sorry, gang.

double rejection

What I love most about this letter is that it offers two separate reasons for declining to represent Young Barry. First, the agent says (quite sensibly) that s/he is forming his/her own agency and, therefore, does not currently have room on his/her client list. Fair enough!

But as if that weren’t enough: S/he also wants to make sure I understand that even if there were room on this client list, I wouldn’t be muscling onto it any time soon, since the subject of my book is not something of interest to this particular client! The subtext (barely) is: “And even when I am expanding my list, don’t bother trying, buck-o.”

Very efficient!
