Over on her blog, the fearsomely smart Cheryl Klein has posted an illuminating and informative piece titled “Six Reasons Why Everything in Publishing Takes So Long.” Everything in it is true, and it’s a must-read for published authors and aspirants alike.
I would like to add to it, though, something I call Lyga’s Publishing Corollary. (I just started calling it that right now, when I needed a title for this post.)
Lyga’s Publishing Corollary is this: Everything in publishing takes three times as long as you think it should take. And if you try to anticipate this by multiplying by three from the outset, things will then take three times longer than that.
(Hat tip to @morganbaden for retweeting Cheryl’s original piece.)
