Mr Lyga, you are my new God. I was an atheist (a lapsed Catholic one) and now I’m a Lygaist. So say we all.Seriously, wicked essay. But here’s my suggestion, a very Canadian one: make THE GOVERNMENT (the secular one) provide health insurance. Huh? Huh?

@Gabrielle: Oh, you silly Canadian, you: We’re Americans! The only things we let the government do are: 1) spy on us, and 2) blow shit up.

Obvious solution: have your government blow up the Catholic Church. You know they want to. Although, I’m not sure much of your government is crazy about birth control either.

You continue to be a lovely human being, as ever. Can the heavy object I hurl at you be some sort of medal?
My best friend recently swore off Catholicism. I have to bite my tongue to no longer make Catholic Guilt jokes, because he obviously still suffers from that particular ailment… Anyway, good article, mister Lyga. Bravo.

As a “recovered” Catholic myself and a gay man to boot, I totally agree with you. I also thank you for saying it so well. You put it very well. The church should be taking care of the hungry and the poor and the needy, instead of spouting more moralizing and dogmatic manure on the rest of the world.
Yes, Church. “Do the Right Thing” for a change.
