Guest Bloggin’: Piper Center – “What to Write”

The folks at the Piper Center for Creative Writing at ASU asked me to guest-blog on the topic of “What to Write.” I did exactly that…in my own way.

The blog begins “Someday, you’re going to be dead.” Things go downhill from there.

Guest Blog: The Page 69 Test

At the request of the Campaign for the American Reader, I’ve subjected Blood of My Blood to the Page 69 Test, wherein authors check out page 69 of their books and discuss how that page mirrors/contributes to the book as a whole.

For Blood of My Blood? Well…

page 69 is in no way representative of the book as a whole, unless you count “creepy sense of ickiness” as representative.

Spoilers follow. Check it out.

Interview: YA Highway Guest Blog

YA Highway posted a guest blog from yours truly last week and I somehow missed it. The topic is “What Do You Feel Right Now?” and I write about what it’s like to wrap up the I Hunt Killers series. Check it out and see what I have to say, including:

I very, very much want it to shock the hell out of them. I want readers to feel a wide range of emotions when reading Blood of My Blood, but most of all, I want it to shock them, and I hope it does.

Guest-Blog: Amazon Kindle

The folks at Amazon’s Kindle blog asked me to talk a little bit about writing Game. So I did. Here’s a bit:

Like most kids of my generation, I was totally messed up byThe Empire Strikes Back.

You watch Star Wars, after all, and sure, there’s some scary stuff. But in the end, the good guys win in completely indubitable and undeniable fashion. There’s a big explosion! There’s laughter! There are medals and everything!

Then along comes The Empire Strikes Back. Within minutes of the movie’s opening, Luke Skywalker is bashed in the face by a snow monster and almost eaten. Shortly thereafter, the Rebel base is overrun by stormtroopers, and the cast from the first movie are scattered, on the run, and desperate.

And then things get even worse.
