This Week in Rejection!: Nerve Cowboy

Just think about that title for a moment: Nerve Cowboy. Isn’t that great? Doesn’t it conjure images for you? I’m picturing the tale of Axon Dendrite, the fastest impulse in the synapse, riding out across the great Neuropathic Plains on a quest for–

OK, OK — I’ll shut up. Sheesh.

Anyway, the Nerve Cowboy rejection was, well, chromatically intriguing, let’s say:

Yep, that is black pen on what feels like brown construction paper, artfully torn at two edges. Interestingly, the scanning process seems to have lightened the brown and darkened the black. It’s easier to read scanned than on the original.

But if you can’t read it, it says:

(The 6th Credit) [The title of the story I had submitted.]

I have no idea if I ever took him up on his offer to buy a copy of the magazine — it was years ago, after all. Knowing me, I probably didn’t because I’m a jerk like that.
