Believe it or not, this panel was enormously controversial when it first hit back in the halcyon days of my youth. Why?
Two unmarried super-heroes — ostensibly teenagers — sleeping together. Hoo-boy!
The funny thing is that I didn’t even blink at it at first. Of course Nightwing and Starfire were sleeping together! I don’t think I even knew it was controversial until years later. (No Internet = no universal growth medium for stupid controversies.)
My feelings then, as now: Hey, they risk their lives for the safety of the world — teen super-heroes deserve to get their freak on!
No jokes about Nightwing “buzzing” the others, please…

I really should find these older comics and read them. I was introduced to Starfire from Teen Titans the animated cartoon they did not too long ago and it was and still is one of my favorite shows. I’d love to branch out 🙂
